TESTIMONIALS

An excellent intro session My GF had always wanted to try SUP, and so for her birthday I decided to investigate. The website for South West SUP was easy to navigate and the booking process showed all the availability and prices. After booking it was a case of keeping it a secret until the day. Getting to the venue was again easy and we were met by the team and given our wetsuits that were included in the price. We then met some of the others who were going to be on our tater session and then got into the dry land intro. After this we went down to the water and the competition to not be the first to fall in began! Although we had a group of 12ish the instructors managed us all well, giving us tips and lessons throughout. There were also a few games/challenges that kept us all entertained throughout the session. The location we paddled round was also very sheltered and the water was lovely (even when I fell in). The when you're done you are in a great location to go and grab some food from the restaurants in the yard. In summary an excellent taster session, great people and instructors, in a safe area of the sea. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to try SUP, and the price was excellent for all of this. Thanks!

Incredible experience, highly recommend! Incredible paddle from Cawsand to Rame head today. Our instructor Ben is very experienced and planned this beautiful SUP tour exploring the beautiful coastline. We stopped on a secluded beach for lunch and explored little coves and beaches along the way. We saw various wildlife including a couple of seals! We all had a fantastic time and felt totally safe. Can't wait for the next one. Highly recommend.

Really great experience We've always had a great experience with SW SUP. They are really helpful and acted on an internet enquiry really quickly. We've had a lesson and hired boards. I would definitely recommend them for both of those things.

Great time with SWSUP will be going back. Wanted to try out stand up paddleboarding and SWSUP seemed like a good place to start. Had some consternation about their disclaimer but checked the insurance and risk assessments and all was in order so decided to book on. They are located at Royal William Yard which is a bit up market for plymouth. Parking is okay but could be better which is pretty standard anywhere for a Saturday afternoon to be fair. We got a space fairly quickly though and parking charges arent that expensive. The instructors were friendly and thorough in their instruction and before long we were on the water and learning with a mix of instruction and games gets you used to the boards. One instructor teaches while the other is for safety and support. Very good. You learn at your own pace and if you dont feel confident in standing, you can stay kneeling until you are ready. Likewise if you dont want to do the games, you can just hang out. The instructors also put you at ease about falling in, which you probably will do at some point. They do have wetsuits if you want one to use and life jackets but you have to ask for them. Session are about an hour after you sort the equipment and whatnot which feels slightly short as you are just getting used to the paddleboarding, but i suspect some people might be getting tired by then as it is a little strenuous if you are a bit out of shape. Nothing most people cant handle though The range of times is impressive with 3 beginner session per day and they also do a club for people more experienced a couple of evenings per week, and you can hire boards too. In term of dressing and undressing, there is no dedicated space, but you can use the equipment store if you wish which is fine. Again just ask the staff are very helpful and accommodating. Toilets are on site and are in the adjacent coffee shop. Overall, its a really good experience. We had lots of fun and will be going back.

Fantastic experience - and lots of fun! A really good fun experience. Tigs was great and a very competent and reassuring instructor. It was my first time on a paddle board and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was part of a group of mixed ages (around 11 to 65) and everyone had a great time. I'd highly recommend giving it a go if you're thinking about it. I'll definitely be back to do some club sessions.

Check out our RWY location. To find us come in through the main entrance to Royal William Yard and turn left. We are by the arch that looks through onto the water. There is ample Pay And Display parking right next to our premises.

PADDLEBOARD HIRE

We pride ourselves in having the best equipment to enable you to explore our stunning location at Firestone Bay and the Royal William Yard from the water.

All of our paddleboards are inflatable meaning they will roll up into a small bag so making them perfect for taking away and finding your own adventures.

We can provide local knowledge to help you find the perfect location for you with the current weather forecast.

Hire area is limited to the Firestone Bay swimming area and Marina unless you are taking the paddleboard off site.

All persons participating on a board hire must be confident paddlers. We require you to have had a lesson with us or with another SUP school before hiring. When you arrive our team will give you some safety advice and watch you get on the water to assess your confidence. If you are visibly very inexperienced and as a result we are concerned for your safety we will terminate the session which will be non-refundable.
