We are an award-winning stand up paddleboard school with a unique waterfront location in the Royal William Yard, Plymouth.

Established in 2011, we have a wealth of experience in providing the ultimate SUP adventure with small group sizes, top quality equipment and highly qualified instructors.

Alongside the best range of stand up paddleboarding activities in Plymouth, South West SUP is home to our organic coffee shop, The Shack, as well as stocking a range of Red Paddle Co boards and accessories.



Owner of South West SUP with a passion for water safety. Marcus is committed to making the coastal areas around Plymouth user friendly, safe and accessible as part founder of Making Waves. A former beach lifeguard and school teacher Marcus is a highly qualified, experienced and knowledgeable instructor.


Ben is our centre manager. He has over 10 years experience in the outdoor industry across many different outdoor disciplines. He loves running SUP tours and other exciting paddleboarding adventures. He has a passion for surfing and mountain biking and is a highly experienced instructor for people of all ages.


Linsey is owner of The Shack and provides barista coffee and locally sourced sweet treats with a big smile. Linsey is passionate about water sports and water safety.


Water sport mad, whether SUP’ping, Freediving, kayaking, sailing, swimming or driving RIBs Tors is also LA for Plymouth RNLI Lifeboat as she passionate about promoting water safety whenever you venture on, in or near the water.


After working as a movement artist in his early twenties, Harry trained as a SUP instructor as a response to the lack of artistic work during the coronavirus outbreak. He has always been an ocean lover, regularly paddling, surfing, and swimming, and now spends his time working both on the water and in the studio. A dab hand at coffee, you may also find him serving up flat whites at The Shack!


Ellie is training to be an assistant SUP instructor as well as Paddlesport Leader & Beach Lifeguard. She can be found at the beach, in or on the sea all year round, whether swimming, SUP’ping, driving RIBs or walking the dog. Ellie will probably sign you in on the day and help get you ready for your session!


Frank is our delightful surf-loving sausage. During the summer months he can often be found patrolling his domain and fulfilling his roll as SWSUP mascot and chief treat taster.


Melaine was born in Brittany, where he discovered the sea was his favourite playground. With nearly 30 years experience in surfing and 10 of paddleboarding, he loves sharing his sea knowledge but never his secret spots! Mel joined the team in 2021 and is the happiest filling in the gaps in his spare time between jobs working as a lighting designer for theatre.
